STANDARDS BASED ART EDUCATION FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
The State defines a balanced, comprehensive arts program as one in which the arts are studied as discrete disciplines related to each other and, when appropriate, to other subject areas in the curriculum. Students in a comprehensive program are expected to master the content of an arts discipline as outlined in the Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards, or the Visual and Performing Arts Framework. Arts disciplines include dance, music, theater, and visual arts. For each of these disciplines, the standards are broken down by grade level and are further grouped by strands as follows:
Artistic Perception
Processing, analyzing, and responding to sensory information through language and skills unique to the discipline.
Creative Expression
Creation, performance and participation in the discipline.
Historical and Cultural Context
Understanding historical contributions and cultural dimensions of the discipline.
Aesthetic Valuing
Responding to, analyzing, and making judgments about works of art.
Connections, Relationships, Applications
Connecting and applying what is learned in the discipline to other art forms and subject areas and to careers.
Bravo School of Art offers a variety of ways for students and teachers to learn about visual arts and fulfill the Standards requirenments at each grade level. We have instructors with multiple subject and K - 12 Art credentials who are experienced in the classroom. Our instructors have been through training in ways to implement the State of California Visual Arts Content Standards. They also have training and experience in staff development modeling ways for classroom teachers to integrate visual arts into the core curriculum.
At Bravo School of Art we have Standards Based Visual Art classes for elementary age students and upper grade students. These classes can supplement the art education a students receives in school or serve to fulfill the art requirement for home schooled students. We can also design a program to fit your students' needs. Many of the workshops and classes listed for students can also be taken by adults looking for ways to teach students art. One of the biggest obstacles to teaching art in the public schools is lack of funds for materials. We use simple materials that would most likely be used in a classroom, such as crayons, and use them in innovative ways.
We offer one-day workshops for teachers. In addition if you have a group of teachers in the same grade level we can schedule a private session for your group at your convenience.
We offer one-day workshops and ongoing classes for children and teens. If you have a group and would like to schedule your own private class or workshop, either in our studio or in your space or school please call us and we can set it up. Our credentialed instructors can tailor make a Standards Based Visual Art lesson or series of classes to suit your educational needs. We work to collaborate and devise ways to integrate with core curriculum.
