Indigo Dyeing and Shibori

  • Bravo School of Art 2363 Broadway, Ste 103 San Diego, CA, 92102 United States (map)

Instructor Lauren Becker Downey

For those curious about Indigo dye and resist textile work, this is your opportunity to play and experiment. The Indigo plant makes a variety of shades of blue, commonly associated with denim. Explore the many possibilities of magical Indigo dyeing with bold and beautiful Shibori, the ancient Japanese art of dyeing natural fabrics and using resist techniques~ folding, clamping, stitching, twisting and compressing. Bring your washed 100% natural fibers; cotton, silk, hemp, bamboo, linen or rayon clothing or fabric to dye; scarves, t-shirts, runners, tote bags, bandanas or smaller pieces of fabric. Since the dye vat will be good for several days, please join us again the following day for the Alumni Indigo Dye Studio to continue the fun blues.
