METALS / JEWELRY
Create a mini collage of photos, text, and memorabilia to be permanently encased between two microscope slides. This is a two-sided glass pendant that can tell a story by showcasing art, photos, text, images, etc. Your pendant may be worn as a necklace or hung as an ornament. Please bring your own perfectly flat photos, text, art, etc that must fit within the 1” x 3” slides.

This chain is a new twist in chain-mail; an ancient art of weaving interlocking rings into a pattern. Although there are many different techniques and patterns, this is an advanced ladder chain that is both elegant and dimensional; one you could wear every day! Your bracelet might be completed in class. Prior jump ring experience is helpful. Materials fee provides specifically sized sterling silver jump rings and clasp. If you have, please bring your Bent-nose and Flat-nose pliers.

Envision like a painter or collage artist, while working like a metal smith. Create a composition that is autobiographical, abstract, figurative or scenic. Using a variety of tools and metalworking techniques, cut shapes and images out of thin-gauge copper or brass, and enrich them with texture, color and form. Prepare your wooden base with acrylic paint. Then attach your visual elements with a variety of copper, brass and steel nails, tacks and thin wires to sew, wrap, coil and connect. Basic patina techniques will be presented to enrich the metal with color. Your final collage may be 2-D or project dimensionally.

Create a multi-colored layered pendant of your own design while learning some of the fundamentals of working with non-ferrous metal - sawing, filing and riveting. Materials fee provides pre-textured and plain brass, copper and silver sheet and wire, enough to make at least two unique wearable works of art!

Create a visual metaphor for life, an autobiographical statement, or a shrine. Start with a flat piece of wood as a base. Create images or shapes out of thin-gauge brass and copper as you learn to cut, texture, color and form metal dimensionally using metalworking tools and techniques. Add collage materials, acrylic paint, elements recycled from daily life or found in nature. Many of these will be provided but feel free to bring your own collection of inspirational bits and pieces from home. Assemble and attach everything to your base using a variety of colorful nails and tacks as well as bent, coiled and twisted wires.

Give voice to the wisdom, beauty and power of the archetypal feminine by creating a Mermaid, Angel or Goddess to wear or display. Design your female form, make a pattern, and then cut your artwork out of thin-gauge copper or brass sheet. Use a variety of metal-working tools and techniques as you cut, texture, stamp, emboss and form your sculptural Deity. Add colorful details with twisted, sewn, coiled or spiraled wires and colorful glass beads. Tools and materials are provided and no experience is required!

Wondering what makes metal clay so special? In this introduction to metal-smithing with metal clay, learn to work with fine silver clay. Craft a keepsake charm worthy of stuffing a stocking, gifting to a favorite teacher or wearing for years to come. Metal Clay is made of fine particles of silver, gold, copper or bronze contained in a clay-like binder, which burn out during firing. It is extremely malleable and can be shaped into beads, jewelry and small sculptures and has the ability to be textured easily. Everything from rubber stamps to found objects can be used to impress wonderful details into your designs. You may bring your own jewelry working tools (marked to avoid confusion) and any additional supplies such as CZ's, eye pins, jump rings, etc that you may wish to incorporate into your design. No previous experience is necessary. All tools and materials, including a charm bracelet, will be provided.

You will make one ring, guaranteed to be uniquely your own. This is a great class to experience working with silver syringe paste. The cost of silver may fluctuate with the market. COPPER OR BRASS HOLIDAY ORNAMENT

Stars, angels, trees, birds, bells, reindeer or abstract forms! These are just some possibilities for the holiday ornament you can create in this workshop using thin-gauge copper or brass sheet and basic metal working tools and techniques. Cut, texture, and form the metal dimensionally. Learn to twist, coil and sew wires and attach colorful glass beads to add detail to your design. Create a decorative brass hook and your ornament is complete.
